Rebuilding a community

Concow Adopt-a-Shed Project

Concow Phoenix Project and the community of Concow extend a huge thank you to everyone who made the first phase of the Shed Project a huge success. Thirteen sheds were built for fire survivors. Articles about the project here.

Our mission

Concow Phoenix Project is a grassroots organization dedicated to the recovery of the community and land of the Concow basin after the Butte Lightning Complex Fires of July 2008. Our mission is to facilitate and support sustainability, rebuilding, community, and fundraising. Our goal is to maximize resources for fire survivors who need them.

Over 200 homes were lost in the Butte Lightning Complex Fires in Concow, California in July of 2008. What was once a thriving community is now ash, charred dead trees and debris. Hundreds of fire survivors are trying to recover. The community and people of Concow need your help to rebuild. Anything at all that you can do to help is greatly appreciated.

Accomplishing our mission

This site exists to make resources available to fire survivors. If you have been displaced by the Buttte Lightning Complex fires, please visit our "Resources" page to complete a grant application, find local helping organizations, land restoration information, and contact information for the agencies involved in the rebuilding.

Additionally, this site serves as a gateway for tax-deductible donations to the Concow Phoenix Project. If you would like to help, please visit our "You can help" page for information on how to donate money or time to the Project.

We do more than ask for money from others, Concow Phoenix Project members organize and participate in work parties to clear and restore the land, organize fund-raising events, and connect fire survivors with resources.

If you would like to be a part of this community effort, please contact us to volunteer. You can download our printable volunteer form here. People of all abilities and skill levels are needed.

Thank you from the people of Concow!
